Mrs. Müller is ninety years old. She visited her husband, who was suffering from dementia, every day and fed him his lunch. When he wanted to eat by himself, she became impatient and tapped his fingers, as one used to do with children.

At some point, she stopped coming altogether.

Mr. Müller no longer wanted to eat.

He was placed in palliative care.

His wife now returned, supported by a nurse. She could no longer find his room on her own.

Mr. Müller died that very same day in the presence of his wife.

The fact that he was allowed to die in her presence comforted me.
